Texas Rep. Tony Gonzales set to visit Socorro and meet with local leaders

Congressmen Tony Gonzales is scheduled to be in Socorro Thursday morning to meet with local leaders and discuss the immigration system and the workforce in the El Paso region.

The roundtable is hosted by multiple different organizarions including The El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Boderplez Alliance, the American Business Immigration Coalition and the National immigration Forum among many others.

Rep. Gonzales and Socorro Mayor, Ivy Avalos, are set to be joined by leaders from each hosting organization as well as Bishop Mark Seitz from the Catholic Diocese of El Paso.

Gonzales' visit to the borderland area comes less than a month after his most recent press conference in El Paso following the end of the Title 42 immigration policy.

Thursdays agenda includes speaking about the labor shortages that the El Paso region is facing as well as a "broken immigration system that fails to address the workforce needs of El Paso's business and communities," a press release for the event says.

The round table will start at 9 a.m. followed by a press conference at the Moonlight Adobe Hall in Socorro.
