Voters in key states and swing congressional districts show strong support for inclusion of citizenship proposals for immigrants in budget reconciliation process

Briefing precedes event with stakeholders in AZ, where voters’ support for immigration reforms surpassed national trends

PHOENIX, AZ — The American Business Immigration Coalition (ABIC), in partnership with FWD.US, will hold a briefing on a new bipartisan national poll conducted by Democratic pollster Matt Barreto and Republican pollster Daron Shaw, that shows voters strongly support proposed pathways to citizenship for Dreamers, TPS holders, farmworkers, and essential workers as part of pending budget legislation.

The briefing, which will be led by Rebecca Shi, executive director of ABIC, and Todd Schulte, President and Executive Director of FWD.us, will include results from an oversampling of voters in Arizona, a key electoral battleground state.

The poll is the first to show voters’ opinions about passing immigration reforms as part of the budget reconciliation process that is the legislative vehicle for the Build Back Better agenda. Senate Democrats continue looking for ways to advance the immigration provisions after the Senate parliamentarian decided immigration did not qualify for inclusion in the budget bill, even though the proposals would positively impact the federal budget and immigration had  previously been included in similar budget bills. ABIC’s bipartisan leaders held dozens of meetings with senators of both parties to try to ignite agreement around a stand alone bill, but Republicans walked away from the talks, and the budget reconciliation process became the next available option for the pathways to citizenship provisions.

The briefing will be held 45 minutes before a news conference focused on results in Arizona, where voters showed even stronger support for action on the immigration provisions.
