WASHINGTON, DC — In response to a memo released today by U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas, ordering enforcement strategies that “promote a fair labor market by supporting more effective enforcement of wage protections, workplace safety, labor rights, and other employment laws and standards,” American Business Immigration Coalition Executive Director Rebecca Shi issued the following statement:

“DHS’ new policy to end large-scale worksite raids and focus on targeting bad actors is a positive step. The guidance also emphasizes  protecting workers who are victims of trafficking and exploitation.

“At the end of the day, we need commonsense immigration reform that brings 11 million people out of the shadows and allows them to work legally under fair labor standards that apply to all workers, receive fair wages, and pay taxes. American workers, employers and our economy will all benefit once Congress does its job and enacts immigration solutions.”
