ABIC Applauds Biden Policy Granting DACA Recipients Access to Medicaid and Affordable Care Act State Exchanges

WASHINGTON – In response to President Biden’s announcement of granting Dreamers access to Medicaid and Affordable Care Act (ACA) state exchanges through executive order, ABIC Deputy Director of Campaigns and DACA recipient Juan Carlos Cerda released the following statement:

“ABIC applauds President Biden’s decision to grant DACA recipients access to Medicaid and to the state healthcare exchanges created under the Affordable Care Act. Though DACA recipients like me currently lack a pathway to citizenship, we work and serve our communities, paying state and federal taxes like everyone else and we are no less vulnerable than anyone else to health problems. Granting DACA recipients access to healthcare will no doubt save lives as it will also help stabilize millions who can now rest easy knowing that they can see a doctor when they need to. This policy will also help American businesses and employers that are facing labor shortages retain their DACA recipient employees.”

“While this policy is a vital step in the right direction, it still points to the greater need for a federal Dream Act that provides a pathway to citizenship, not only for DACA recipients, but for all our nation’s Dreamers seeking to build a life for themselves ,and their families and the businesses and communities that depend on them.”
