The new Trump administration has the opportunity to strengthen the economy by embracing pragmatic, common-sense immigration reform and prevent tearing American families apart

WASHINGTON — Today, the Associated Press projected that Donald Trump will be the next President of the United States. With immigration policy central to America’s economy and families, the leaders of American Business Immigration Coalition (ABIC) issued the following statements in response to the results of the election:

Rebecca Shi, executive director of ABIC: “The Trump administration has an opportunity to strengthen the U.S. economy by embracing a pragmatic approach to immigration reform that aligns with its priorities. Instead of mass deportations, which could potentially cost $88 billion in just one year, causing significant economic harm, ABIC will work to ensure the incoming administration focuses on common-sense solutions that will grow our workforce in key industries like agriculture, construction, and healthcare. ABIC also supports President Trump’s statement that immigrant students graduating from U.S. colleges should be eligible for green cards, enabling the U.S. to retain top talent. Allowing these industries and students to thrive means a stronger, more competitive U.S. economy, capable of leading in the global market.”

Al Cardenas, CEO of VITAL and co-chairman of ABIC: “As the Trump administration navigates the complexities of immigration policy, ABIC will continue ensuring that our leaders and policymakers recognize the invaluable contributions that immigrants bring to our economy by prioritizing common-sense, bipartisan immigration reform. Immigrants represent 17 percent of the U.S. workforce and are integral to industries like agriculture, where they comprise nearly 50 percent of the labor force. By creating pathways to expand our workforce—especially for those who have been part of our communities for years—we can stabilize key industries and ensure that our economy continues to prosper.”

Bob Worsley, co-chairman of the American Business Immigration Coalition and former Arizona Republican State Senator: “Americans depend on a strong economy fueled by hard-working immigrants across essential industries and businesses in agriculture, construction, healthcare, and much more. That is why ABIC will call on the Trump administration to keep these sectors and businesses thriving. To do this, America needs an immigration policy that supports—not disrupts—our workforce and families. The Trump administration must recognize that immigrants are vital to our nation’s economic success. By embracing a pragmatic and compassionate approach to immigration policy, we can and must secure a resilient economy for generations to come.”
