Rebecca Shi, Executive Director: Business leaders are calling for secure border and stable workforce
WASHINGTON — Today, in response to President Trump’s inauguration, ABIC Executive Director Rebecca Shi issued the following statement:
“President Trump ran on a promise of lowering inflation, promoting U.S. economic competitiveness and safeguarding our national security. While it’s past time for Washington to address our broken immigration system, we need to make sure our businesses, hardworking employees and consumers do not suffer in the process. Achieving both economic growth and security requires a practical immigration strategy that prioritizes safety while recognizing the significant contributions immigrants make to our businesses, economy and communities.
“America’s construction, agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality and technology industries rely on immigrants to sustain their workforces. ABIC and our coalition of more than 1,700 business leaders from around the country are calling on the Trump administration to put America’s economy and communities first by securing our borders and removing dangerous criminals, while also remembering the significant contributions of immigrant workers, Dreamers and spouses of U.S. citizens. These individuals help drive America’s economy, keep costs down for consumers and strengthen our communities.
“We are eager to work with the Trump administration to overhaul our immigration system and find solutions that work to prioritize safety and supercharge America’s economy.”
